This campaign is supported by the Nando Peretti Foundation, which supports UNPO on a project named “Earth, Exploitation and Survival”, which focuses on different areas of the world, including Mauritania. The Nando Peretti Foundation provides grants to projects which fall into one of the following areas: Charity, Educational, Environmental conservation, Medical research, Construction, Cultural/Artistic. The Nando Peretti Foundation was born in 2000 as a philanthropic foundation, at the initiative of Elsa Peretti. The Foundation is dedicated to the memory of Elsa's father, Nando, a distinguished businessperson who built Anonima Petroli Italiana (API) into one of the leading European oil companies.
UNPO works in close collaboration with its partner representing the Haratin people of Mauritania: the Initiative pour la resurgence du movement abolitioniste (IRA – Initiative for the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement). This organization was created in 2008 following the military coup d’état in Mauritania with the aim of defending the rights of the Haratin and Black populations who are particularly affected by slavery. This organization defends human rights and fights against racism. It works towards the abolition of slavery and to end discrimination against the Black populations of Mauritania. The President of IRA Mauritania is Mr. Biram Dah Abeid, who has recently received the Frontline Defenders Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk (May 2013)
